TRAINING FUNDING

There is a training fund held by the Montgomery Area Scout Council to help fund training for adult volunteers in Montgomeryshire Scouting. This is a restricted fund set up by the Montgomeryshire Area Scout Council through charitable fundraising from various funds and individuals, so that volunteers who give freely of their time to Scouting should not be financially burdened by training costs.

Funding is available up to 100% of training and travel costs for Leaders, authorised Helpers, Scout Fellowship members and Explorer Scouts who are members of Montgomeryshire Scouting. The actual level of funding granted is at the discretion of the Area Council, who will decide whether to approve funding, and at what level, on the basis of the type of training and the expected benefit to Montgomeryshire Scouting.

The aim of the training fund is to support skills, adventure and other Scouting activities. The training should allow adult volunteers to offer a broader range of activities and an enhanced experience to young people in Scouting in Montgomeryshire. This includes attendance at training updates, workshops and courses run by the Welsh Scout Council and other organisations.

Recipients of Area training funding will be expected to put their training to use in working with young people in Scouting in the Area and this needs to be shown clearly on the training funding application form. In particular, it must usually be shown that training for adventurous activities will be put to use at Area level, not just at Group level.

Travel expenses will be paid if approved in advance, but trainees are expected to make efficient use of transport, for example by sharing cars with others.

Funding may be paid in advance or on completion, depending on the type of course. However, funding will not be approved retrospectively, so applications must be made, and approved, in advance of the proposed training.
