It is with a heavy heart to hear of the passing of Gordon 'Chup' Mill.

After setting up Mach Scout Troop back in 1952, comprising of 2 patrols - Hawks and Bulldogs, in the Scout Room at the Owain Glyndwr Institute. Having sourced access to their own camp in Nant Lliwdy, where he built his own pool using oil drums as a bung, until the farmer at the next door Esgair offered GYB land for sale, which the Welsh Scout Council bought. Chup and the Mach troops paid for and built a new pool. After retiring at the age of 65 he continued on in scouting as warden /POC at the GYB campsite.
His awards..
MEDAL OF MERIT 1963
THE SILVER ACORN 1968
BAR OF THE SILVER ACORN 1987
For all of his efforts towards scouting he was awarded the highest award possible within the Scout Association, on the 23rd April 1996 13 years to the day before Mach Scouts Group re-opened their doors again Chup was awarded the SILVER WOLF!
I often hear old great/ funny stories about what the Scouts and Cubs got up to under Scoutmaster Chup, I can only hope that I have achieved in giving our local youths great memories, stories to tell and skills that he would be proud of!
From all of Machynlleth past and present Leaders we salute you and our thoughts are with you and your Family.
RIP Chup
